De un cuadro sólo se ve un pequeño tanto por ciento respecto a las capas que lo forman que, aunque invisibles al espectador, imprescindibles para poder llegar a una última y definitiva. En esta obra, esta última capa es la que oculta todo el trabajo anterior, destruyéndolo y construyendo una nueva obra. No se pretende ocultar el contenido al espectador, como en obras anteriores ("100x100x100 en 200x200x200", 1999) sino el mostrárselo de manera indirecta, por su registro en vídeo.
El cuadro fue pintado sin que ninguna otra persona tuviera acceso a él, ni durante su proceso de realización ni una vez acabado. Posteriormente, se grabó en plano fijo durante 11,7 ' (proporción áurea respecto a las 24h. del día).
Se contó con el asesoramiento de restauradores y técnicos especializados para cubrir el cuadro con un material irreversible y conseguir que en el futuro sea imposible levantar su última capa y, por tanto, ver directamente la obra pintada.
We can only see a little part of a painting from the layers that form it. These layers are invisible to the eyes of an observer, but they are essential to appreciate the last and definite layer. This last layer conceals the previous work, it destroys it and builds a new one without visible content. The purpose is not to hide the content from the viewer, as in previous works (“100 x 100 x 100 in 200 x 200 x 200), 1999), but to show it to him indirectly, through a video recording.
The painting was painted as an intimate act. Nobody else could see it, neither during the time it was being painted nor after its completion. Subsequently, the painting was recorded in a steady shot for 15.68 seconds (gold section). This videographic representation is the only way to see the painting.
Restorers and technicians advised on the appropriate material to cover the painting so that the last layer cannot be lifted to see the original painting.
